Emotional self-regulation: “The process model of emotion regulation is based upon the modal model of emotion. The modal model of emotion suggests that the emotion generation process occurs in a particular sequence over time. This sequence occurs as follows:

Situation: the sequence begins with a situation (real or imagined) that is emotionally relevant.
Attention: attention is directed towards the emotional situation.
Appraisal: the emotional situation is evaluated and interpreted.
Response: an emotional response is generated, giving rise to loosely coordinated changes in experiential, behavioral, and physiological response systems.

Because an emotional response (4.) can cause changes to a situation (1.), this model involves a feedback loop from (4.) Response to (1.) Situation. This feedback loop suggests that the emotion generation process can occur recursively, is ongoing, and dynamic.” Wikipedia

I know where you hide. I’ve observed you from where I seek. I’ve wandered behind as you wade between the river beds. I’ve balanced on the train tracks and crossed your frozen lakes. I’ve felt your hands as they cradle babies and salmon berries. And captured your eyes as we pass in the mountain’s mist. I know where you hide. I hide there too.

I met Karri a few years back in a Stanford course when I was fortunate to have come across one of his brilliant illustrations about those that live and work in “black holes”. I posted his comic on my office door as a reminder that I’m not alone. It’s fantastic when someone can distill through imagery and a few words exactly what you are thinking and make it endearing to all.

Thank you Karri for sharing your “resume” with me. It’s a beautiful piece of work and I look forward to your future renderings on how we learn and move forward in our lives.
