“The most effective creative leaders are the ones who think, do I have the right circumstances to make the team successful? Have I set them up? Is there something about our culture and this organization that’s getting in the way that I have to compensate for? Do I need to make the conditions and constraints different for this team?”
“Before every run is a race between your mind and an excuse. Win it.” ~anonymous

“We think that there’s a blurry line between play and learning. And there should be even a blurrier line between those two things. When a learning experience is playful and exploration-oriented it puts people’s minds into a relaxed state where learning can actually happen the easiest.” David Merrill

Great news to share! I’ve been invited to present at the Society for College and University Planning Annual, International Conference 2016 at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Catch me on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 from 8:30–9:30 a.m. Session title: “A mountain climber’s guide to scrambling through change” (CN287).
Last year we were in Chicago! The event was packed with fantastic speakers, food, art, and architecture. I was thrilled to catch Jane McGonigal, Game Designer and Future Forecaster, who presented on the application of game-design to real world issues. Check out her TED talk on harnessing game power. Fascinating!
Another stellar episode of Life Hacks! Using crayons as candles…interesting. The Bundt pan catching corn kernels as they’re shaved off the cob…brilliant. Turning AAA batteries into AA batteries with tin foil (put on positive side and may I add do NOT try this at home!). Genius. Applying peanut butter around the perimeter of your sandwich and then filling the middle with jelly (to avoid jelly leakage..or flow 🙂 is like Stephen Hawkingish. I love the Internet. 🙂
I’m off to the big city this morning! If you’re in Vancouver, check out Chali-Rosso Art Gallery. I was perusing the place a few weeks ago and they have an amazing collection of Dali, Picasso, Miro, and Chagall on display. It’s free to look :).
Chagall’s great. His lovers float and there’s always a goat. Can you find him?
Kiteboarding with Whales! from Sam Light on Vimeo. I know what you’re thinking, she posted another crash reel of surfers. No! Trust me. (But those videos are funny, you have to admit). This is some really beautiful footage of a fantastic sport. The aerial shots are so crazy…my stomach launches into my throat. I’m looking forward to playing in Howe Sound and being tossed and turned by that invisible dragon.
Adding tonic water, vitamin B-50 complex, and 900 marshmallows to my grocery list. You know this is what learning is all about. Having fun…making cool things…daring each other…and getting a good chuckle out of it. So funny. 🙂
